This year will be Ms. Steere’s 10th year teaching at South Shore. She enjoys teaching here at South Shore and feels that she fits best here. Ms. Steere would say that one thing that makes South Shore different from other schools is that Shore South Middle School is smaller than a traditional middle school, therefore, she feels that she has an opportunity to really get to know the students. Ms. Steere would say that being a math teacher is a difficult job because it is a lot of work to teach math. She mentions, “Students often come into class with a preconceived notion that they are not “good” at math.,” and so then, she talks about how it can take a lot of effort to get each student to gain confidence in themselves in being successful in math.

She states how it is extremely rewarding to see students gain confidence in themselves and their growth from the beginning of the year. “It is also very exciting to see students use their critical thinking skills to approach problems.” Ms. Steere talks about her journey for wanting to become a math teacher, she mentions how she wasn’t a great math student in high school, and so when she joined the Army (after high school) she took college courses online and realized that she was doing well in the college math courses, which led her to wanting to become a math teacher after leaving the Army. If Ms. Steere could teach any other subject, it would be P.E. She states, “I have always thought that PE would be a fun class to teach.”
